While the designs are undeniably derived from the classical elements that define Persian rugs—intricate all-over patterns with complicated medallions, quatrefoils, and scrolling arabesques—the final specimens feel like modern departures. They tip their hats at their predecessors, and then without a backwards glance move into new territory. Though firmly rooted in tradition, the scale, refreshed colors, and made-for-today pattern arrangements of these hand-knotted wool rugs make them feel both timeless and right for the current moment.
